The EPA has postponed imposition of regulations governing emissions from thousands boilers. The EPA still needs more time to gather information and build a solid case for the changes. A very complex proposal, 276 pages and covers controls and monitoring standards for 11 subcategories of boilers and process heaters of various design and fuel type. The EPA estimates that the cost to industry to implement the rules will be approximately $1.8 billion - half the estimated $3.6 billion cost of complying with the originally proposed rules. The final Boiler MACT rule affects numerous industries, refineries, paper mills, and chemical and manufacturing plants.
